The GASP is back! Originally established in the late 1970s, this legendary ride returns to the open roads of Lavaca County after a five-year hiatus. As contractors for this event, we are thrilled to highlight the revival of the Great American Shiner Pedal. This is a ride, not a race, designed for those who appreciate the scenic beauty of small-town Texas, the camaraderie of the cycling community, and, of course, a cold Shiner beer at the finish line.

Starting and ending at the historic Spoetzl Brewery, the GASP offers a professional yet relaxed atmosphere. While the course is chip-timed for personal tracking, the focus remains on the journey through the rolling countryside. Whether you are a veteran of the original GASP or a newcomer looking to experience this Texas tradition, you will find “great roads, great people, and a great day on the bike.”

Ride Distances & Routes

Participants can choose from three distinct distances on open roads:

100 Miles (The Full Century): The ultimate challenge for seasoned riders looking to conquer the Lavaca County hills.
50 Miles: A solid intermediate route through the heart of Shiner’s surrounding countryside.
25 Miles: A relaxed, scenic loop perfect for casual cyclists and groups of friends.
Note: All routes are subject to final safety approvals. Riders must obey all traffic laws as the course remains open to vehicles.

Support and Amenities

The GASP provides a premium experience centered on Texas hospitality:

Post-Ride Celebration: Your entry includes a bratwurst meal and three Shiner beers (for participants 21+).
Live Entertainment: The Spoetzl Brewery will host live music featuring The Emotions (12:00 PM – 4:00 PM) and Slim Bawb (4:00 PM – 7:30 PM).
Brewery Perks: For an additional fee, riders and guests can enjoy the brewery’s annual Crawfish Boil.
Exclusive Gear: Official Shiner Beer cycling jerseys are available for $85 during registration. These are limited to 200 units, so act fast!

Event Schedule

7:00 AM: Check-in and day-of packet pick-up begins at the brewery.
8:00 AM: Official Start for all distances.
12:00 PM: Post-ride party, meal service, and live music begin.
7:30 PM: Event festivities conclude.

Registration is managed through RunSignup. Because this is the first GASP in five years, high demand is expected.

Early Bird Registration: $55.00
Late Registration: $65.00
Note: Professional chip timing is included, but no competitive awards are given to maintain the “ride, not a race” spirit.
