Event Name: Texas Three Step
Date: Saturday, November 7, 2026
Ride Distance: 35 and 50 miles
State: Texas (TX)
Location: 146 US-83, Leakey, TX 78873
About the Ride:
Texas Three Step is a unique cycling adventure through the beautiful Leakey area of Texas, known for its hills, canyons, and the Frio River. The ride takes participants across private ranches, backroads, and trails along the river, with scenery that includes towering cliffs, springs, waterfalls, and the surrounding Hill Country.
The event combines three different riding surfaces—dirt, caliche, and chipseal—giving the ride its “Texas Three Step” name. Riders will experience singletrack and ranch access trails, newer mountain bike and running trails near town, quiet rolling chipseal roads, and challenging gravel roads. Participants can choose between 35- and 50-mile routes, with both distances starting at 9:00 AM.
The 35-mile route is listed at $75, while the 50-mile route is also listed at $75, with the standard fee shown as $85. Registration is limited to 225 participants, and prices increase after October 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM.
Bike selection is an important part of the experience. The event recommends a bike with tires at least 40mm (40c) wide, with wider tires being even better. A mountain bike may be the most enjoyable option for some riders. Tubeless tires with sealant are strongly recommended, and riders are required to have GPS navigation available through a bike computer or a smartphone using the Ride With GPS app.
This is a non-timed, non-racing event, allowing riders to enjoy the scenery at their own pace. Those who prefer to ride faster are welcome to do so, while riders looking for a more relaxed experience can take their time and enjoy the surroundings.
The ride concludes with a finish-line party at Rustic Frio near the county courthouse square. Music, lunch, and drinks will be provided, with lunch supplied by the Leakey Lions Club. Proceeds from the lunch benefit the club’s community service programs in the Leakey area.
The event also supports local businesses, nonprofits, and landowners while helping expand cycling access in the area. Participants can also make an additional donation to the Frio Valley Cycling Extension, with donation options of $25, $35, or $50.
Texas Three Step offers a unique combination of three riding surfaces, scenic Hill Country landscapes, private ranches, trails, gravel roads, and Frio River views. The non-competitive format, challenging terrain, and finish-line celebration make it a memorable ride for cyclists looking for something different.
