Cycling for Hope: Supporting Raquel’s Wings for Life

Event Information
The Eighter From Decatur Bicycle Rally is an annual cycling tradition that embodies North Texas community spirit. As the entities managing this event’s outreach, we are proud to highlight that 100% of the proceeds benefit Raquel’s Wings for Life. This vital non-profit organization provides free air transportation for cancer patients in the DFW area, flying them to MD Anderson in Houston for treatments they might otherwise struggle to reach.
The rally is named after a local expression of hometown pride and offers a challenging yet beautiful experience through the rolling hills of Wise and Montague Counties. Unlike flat city rides, this course features scenic country backroads with significant elevation gains, providing a rewarding adventure for cyclists of all skill levels while honoring those in the fight of their lives.
Ride Distances & Routes
Choose the challenge that fits your training and goals:
- 52 Miles (Expert): A rigorous route through the hills for experienced cyclists. This distance is timed and open to teams.
- 27 Miles (Moderate): A solid intermediate challenge featuring rolling terrain. This distance is also timed and open to teams.
- 9 Miles (Beginner/Family): A local scenic loop perfect for casual riders and families.
- Course Note: The 27 and 52-mile routes are not recommended for beginners due to the significant terrain gains and losses.
Support and Logistics
We prioritize rider safety and comfort to ensure a world-class experience:
- Safety Protocols: The course is patrolled by SAG wagons, a motorcycle group from Guardians of the Children, and even a spotter plane to keep an eye on all participants.
- Rest Stops: Five fully stocked stops are available across the routes, offering water, oranges, bananas, and snacks.
- Packet Pick-Up: * Pre-Race: Friday, September 18, 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Decatur Municipal Airport.
- Race Day: Saturday, September 19, 6:30 AM – 8:00 AM at the Decatur Town Square.
- Post-Rally Meal: Celebrate your finish with a well-earned (and free) meal at participating local restaurants right on the historic Town Square.
Event Schedule
- 6:30 AM: Day-of Registration and Packet Pick-Up opens in Decatur Town Square.
- 8:00 AM: Official Start Time. The rally begins sharp in front of Trinity Street Coffee.
- 10:30 AM – 2:00 PM: Post-ride community meal and celebration on the Square.
Registration and Fees
Registration includes course support, rest stop access, and a post-ride meal.
- Timed Rides (27 & 52 Miles): Professional time results are provided for these distances.
- Teams: Discounted rates and specialized tracking are available for groups.
