About the Ride:
The Piney Woods Quad County Challenge is a bicycle tour and scholarship fundraiser taking riders through the beautiful Piney Woods of East Texas. The event features scenic roads, challenging hills, multiple crossings of Lake Palestine, and a unique county-collection challenge where riders can claim up to four counties along their route.

The event offers three primary route options. The approximately 25-mile route covers Anderson and Cherokee Counties, the 45-mile route travels through Anderson, Cherokee, and Smith Counties, and the 65+ mile Quad County Metric Century adds Henderson County. The longest route is designed to exceed 100 kilometers, making it a true Metric Century. Final routes, maps, mileage, and roads are subject to change as the courses are finalized and approvals are obtained.

More than just a recreational ride, the event supports the William Foster Lodge Scholarship Fund. The 2026 event, along with support from sponsors and donors, raised $8,800 and helped the organization award $17,000 in scholarships to 16 graduating students from Frankston ISD and LaPoynor ISD. The 2027 event aims to build on that impact.

Riders will have access to aid stations stocked with water, electrolytes, bananas, orange slices, and other refreshments. Packet pickup is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:00 AM, with the ride beginning at 8:00 AM. The finish line party begins at 9:00 AM and will feature music, burgers, refreshments, and desserts from sponsors. The course closes at 1:00 PM. Each participant also receives an event T-shirt and sponsor-provided swag bag.

Registration is capped at 250 participants due to parking limitations. As a fundraiser, registration fees are non-refundable. Rider safety remains the priority, and dangerous weather conditions may result in cancellation of the cycling portion while packet pickup and the finish line party may continue when conditions allow.

The ride offers a combination of beautiful East Texas scenery, challenging terrain, multiple Lake Palestine crossings, and a unique county-collection concept. It also has a meaningful purpose, with proceeds supporting scholarships for local graduating students.
