Event Information
The Skittles Waco Wild West Bicycle Tour is a legendary Texas tradition that has been delighting cyclists since 1985. Known affectionately as the “Sweetest Ride in Texas,” this event is famous for its outstanding rider support and its unique finish line reward: a custom bag of Skittles and assorted candy to fill your helmet. Organized as an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the ride has spent nearly four decades giving back to the community, supporting organizations such as Be the Match, local veterans groups, and school bike rodeos.
For 2026, the event is introducing “The Sugar Rush,” a rebranded 100-mile century route designed for pure cycling excitement. Additionally, the event is stepping up its technical game by providing timing chips for all participants on the 27 to 100-mile routes, allowing riders to track their performance through the beautiful rural roads of McLennan and Bosque counties.
Ride Distances and Routes
There is a route for every age and skill level, from family beginners to high-speed “hammer” groups:
- 100-Mile Century (The Sugar Rush): A picturesque journey through historic Mother Neff State Park and rural countryside.
- 100K (62 Miles): A popular metric century route featuring great rural scenery.
- 46-Mile and 26-Mile Routes: Intermediate options that balance a solid workout with the event’s famous Texas hospitality.
- 6-Mile Family Loop: A protected, family-friendly route that can be ridden multiple times for those who want a casual experience.
Support and Logistics
The Waco Wild West is renowned for its “no calorie deficit” policy and superior course management:
- Legendary Rest Stops: Located every 10 to 12 miles, stations are stocked with PB&J, fruit, pickle juice, cookies, and candy.
- Course Support: Over 10 SAG (Support and Gear) vehicles patrol the 200 miles of roadway to assist with mechanical issues.
- Skedaddle Point: Century riders must reach the 60.7-mile mark by 12:00 PM to continue the full 100-mile course; otherwise, they are redirected to the finish line for safety.
- Post-Ride Celebration: Heritage Square hosts food trucks (serving everything from burgers to coffee) and finisher medals for all participants.
