Top of Texas Heritage Ride

A Road Bicycle Benefit Race Showcasing Amarillo’s Splendor and History

Date: Saturday, April 25, 2026

Location (Start/Finish): Amarillo, TX (Staging area to be confirmed in official race materials; routes depart from Amarillo)

Event Information

The inaugural Top of Texas Heritage Ride is a premier Road Bicycle Benefit Race organized by the Community Engagement Unit of The Amarillo Police Department. This unique event is designed to cultivate pride, belonging, and understanding in the community by showcasing the rich history and major landmarks of Amarillo. The ride aims to increase commerce, attraction, and physical fitness in a single, impactful event.

The Beneficiary: One Chair at a Time

All proceeds from this event will benefit the local Amarillo charity, One Chair at a Time. This 501(c)(3) non-profit organization is dedicated to improving the quality of life for adolescents and young adults with physical disabilities. They achieve this by providing specialized sports equipment—such as tennis chairs, rugby chairs, racing chairs, and hand cycles—along with education and opportunities for participation in adaptive sports. Competing in sports can be difficult for the physically disabled due to specialized, expensive equipment, and your support directly helps bridge that gap.

Ride Distances and Landmark Tours

The ride offers four carefully designed routes that highlight the major historical and cultural landmarks in and around Amarillo:

  • 10-Mile Ride: Allows participants to see The Big Texan, Slug Bug Ranch, AQHA, the Barrio Neighborhood, Hodge Town, New City Hall, and Centennial Plaza.
  • 20-Mile Tour: Contestants will see all 10-mile landmarks plus The Amarillo Police Department, Route 66, and the Amarillo Country Club.
  • 37-Mile Route: Showcases an extended view of the city including John Ward Memorial Park (Medi Park), the Don Harrington Discovery Center, Amarillo Botanical Gardens, the old Helium Plant, Cadillac Ranch, the Historical Wolflin Neighborhood, Amarillo College, the Downtown Church District, Chamber of Commerce building, Polk St, Historical Potter County Courthouse, and the new Potter County Court House.
  • 59-Mile Ride: Extends to Wildarado in Oldham County, allowing participants to see all city landmarks plus the Wind Farms. This route gives riders an outside-the-city view of the beautiful and sprawling West Texas Plains and a glimpse of regional resources such as Beef production, Wind Energy, Grain, and Produce.

  • “In It For The Goodies” Ticket: You can participate from home by purchasing this ticket, which provides you with all the goodies included for a registered rider without requiring you to participate in the race itself.
