Event: 5th Annual Austin Autism Society Bike Ride
Route Distances: Family ride (less than 2 miles), 9 miles, 24 miles, 42 miles, or 62 miles/100K.
About the Ride: WHAT THE AUTISM SOCIETY OF GREATER AUSTIN DOES: provides information and support to families all over Texas who are affected by autism through our meetings, workshops, phone line, website and listserv;responds to inquiries about professionals, elected officials, and members of the community about autism and best practices;advocates for Texans with autism at the state level (during the 2009 legislative session, we worked tirelessly on HB 1574, dedicated to improving adult services and creating a statewide autism resource center; the bill passed!)With the dramatic increase in the incidence of autism over the past couple decades—from about 1 in 1,000 births 20 years ago to about 1 in 110 births now—the demand for our services has grown beyond the capacity of our all-volunteer staff. We would like to expand, and we hope you can help.
