The 2nd annual Tour d’ Athens invites cyclists to experience the beautiful backroads and rolling countryside of East Texas. Starting and ending at the First United Methodist Church in Athens, this rally is designed to showcase the region’s respectable climbing and breathtaking rural views. Whether you are looking for a rigorous endurance test or a scenic cruise through the pines, the Tour d’ Athens provides a well-organized environment for riders of all skill levels.
Proceeds from the event registration fees and donations benefit the HALO fund, ensuring that your participation supports meaningful charitable work within the community. The ride is known for its high level of organization, featuring fully stocked rest stops and a friendly volunteer presence that embodies the spirit of Athens.
Ride Distances
Participants can choose from four distinct routes, each offering a unique perspective of the local terrain:
- Metric Century (approx. 62 miles): The premier distance for experienced cyclists looking to maximize their hill climbing and endurance.
- 55-Mile Route: A substantial intermediate challenge covering the heart of the scenic countryside.
- 30-Mile Route: A moderate distance ideal for recreational riders.
- 22-Mile Route: A shorter loop perfect for beginners or those looking for a quicker morning ride.
Support and Logistics
The Tour d’ Athens is a fully supported rally, prioritizing rider safety and comfort:
- Rest Stops: Strategically placed every 10 to 15 miles, stocked with hydration, snacks, and restroom facilities.
- Mechanical Support: Bike mechanics will be stationed along the routes to assist with minor repairs and adjustments.
- SAG Support: Support and Gear vehicles will patrol the routes until 4:00 PM. A final sweep will be conducted at that time to offer transport to any remaining riders.
- T-Shirt Guarantee: To ensure you receive an event t-shirt, you must register by August 15, 2026.
Ride Day Schedule
- 6:00 AM: On-site packet pick-up and registration opens.
- 7:30 AM: Start time for Metric Century and 55-mile riders.
- 7:35 AM: Start time for 30 and 22-mile riders.
- 4:00 PM: Rest stops and official course support close.
Registration and Weather Policy
Registration is available online through BikeReg. Please note that the event follows a strict no-refund policy. In the event of inclement weather, a one-hour hold may be implemented if lightning is present. If conditions are safe, the ride will proceed in light to moderate rain.
