The Most Inclusive and Social Cycling Experience in Central Texas
Date: Saturday, April 18, 2026
Location: Spicewood, Texas (Krause Springs, 424 Co Rd 404, Spicewood, TX 78669)
Event Information
The Hill Country Ride for AIDS (HCRA) celebrates its 27th season as a cornerstone of the Central Texas cycling community. Known for its “Community of Kindness,” this event is much more than a bike ride; it is a festive, high-energy fundraiser that supports nine local nonprofits providing essential HIV/AIDS services. The ride is explicitly designed to be inclusive and social, welcoming cyclists of all skill levels, from those on their very first outing to seasoned endurance athletes.
Whether you are riding solo or as part of a team, the HCRA environment is built on camaraderie and mutual support. The event culminates in a legendary celebration at the beautiful Krause Springs, where participants can relax, swim, and enjoy the company of a community dedicated to a vital cause. It is a day marked by costumes, themed pit stops, and a shared commitment to ensuring that no one in Central Texas has to face HIV/AIDS alone.
Ride Distances
The Hill Country Ride for AIDS offers five distinct route options to ensure that every participant finds a distance that matches their comfort level:
- 13 Miles: A perfect introductory route for families and casual riders.
- 27 Miles: A spirited distance for those looking for a manageable Hill Country challenge.
- 45 Miles: A scenic mid-range route featuring rolling hills and beautiful vistas.
- 75 Miles: A demanding endurance route for experienced cyclists.
- 90+ Miles: The premier challenge for long-distance enthusiasts and elite athletes.
Support and Logistics
This is a strictly “no-drop” ride, meaning the organizers and ride marshals ensure that no cyclist is left behind. The support network for the HCRA starts months before the actual ride day:
- Weekly Joyrides: Held every weekend leading up to the event, these training rides are designed to build skills and community in a non-competitive environment.
- Craft Nights: Social gatherings for costume planning and team bonding. For the 2026 season, these are held at CreatEscape Coworking on February 3, March 3, and April 7.
- Yellow Bike Project: Through a special partnership, participants can volunteer for nine hours at the Yellow Bike Project in Austin to earn a bicycle for the ride.
- Course Support: On ride day, participants enjoy fully stocked pit stops, medical assistance, and mechanical support across all routes.
Fundraising
Fundraising is a central part of the HCRA experience. To make the process easier, the ride supports various platforms, including integrated Facebook and Instagram birthday fundraisers. Dollars raised through these social channels count directly toward your personal fundraising goal. While many participants ride to meet their personal minimums, the average rider often exceeds expectations due to the supportive nature of the donor community.
Registration
Registration is open to riders and volunteers alike. Because this is a social ride, participants are encouraged to form or join teams to maximize the experience.
