Date: May 11, 2024
Event: 20th Annual Red Poppy Bike Ride
Route distances: 15, 39, 45, 60, and 100 miles
History:
The idea of a fund-raising local bike ride was conceived by late Georgetown SERTOMA Club member Chris Mealy and presented to members in 2003.
A small group of interested bike riders including the Cyclopaths, Sun City Bike Club, and interested Sertoma bikers met to work together to plan an annual local bike ride. After many long hours of work and meetings with Georgetown officials including the Georgetown Police Department, the first Red Poppy Bike Ride took off in 2004 and was held every year through 2019 until COVID-19 interrupted the event.
Plans are made on an annual basis for the Red Poppy Bike Ride every spring.
