Date: March 19, 2016
Event: Grand Parkway Ride
Route Distances: 15, 25, 50 and 75 miles
About the Ride: Would you like to have the chance to ride on a brand new major roadway in the greater Houston area with no traffic on the road except bicycles? Through a unique partnership that includes the Texas Department of Transportation, Zachry-Odebrecht Parkway Builders, the United Methodist Church, and the YMCA, in connection with the celebration of the opening of the Grand Parkway on the north side of Houston, that opportunity is coming on Saturday, March 19th! Funds generated by this ride will go to the YMCA International Services Trafficked Persons Assistance Program. This program supports the work of the YMCA in responding to the crisis of human trafficking. Below please find information about this once in a lifetime ride:
Route Info:
The route for this ride is a 12.5 mile section between Hwy 59 and I45. Riders will access the Grand Parkway going west at the Valley Ranch Road on ramp. The turnaround for the full 25 mile loop is at the intersection of the Grand Parkway and I45. Riders will have the option of riding this loop up to three times. The turnaround for those only wanting to ride 15 miles is at the Townsen Road Access.
Route notes:
The ONLY breakpoint for this ride is at Texan Drive Stadium (New Caney ISD) about a half mile from the Valley Ranch road access. This is because there are no places along the ride that provide enough space for a break point. This break point will have plenty of portapotties, water, Gatorade, and snacks.
A LIMITED number of portapotties will be placed at the Townsen Road turnaround.
Please note that the turnaround at I45 is a slow zone. Ride with care as you are making that turn.
Please note that the intersection of Valley Ranch road and the Grand Parkway will have bicycles crossing one another. Route managers will be present to help alert you but take responsibility for riding carefully in that area.
Parking lots open at 6:30. Break point at New Caney ISD (Texan Drive) stadium opens at 7:00.
Grand Parkway access at Valley Ranch road opens at 7:30.
Three loop riders will start at 8:00. Two loop riders will start at 8:20. One loop riders will start at 8:40. Partial loop riders will start at 9:00.
Valley Ranch Road access will close at 11:00. All riders must be off the course by 1:00.
The ride will begin in New Caney Texas at the intersection of Valley Ranch Road and the Grand Parkway near HWY 59 North. To help you find it, FM 1314 is to the South and FM 1485 is to the North.
